My motivation for pursuing a PhD in School Psychology is to support children with disabilities within the school system. I work with children with autism and behavioral challenges. As a first-generation college student with neurodivergence, this subject is a very personal one to me as a full-time Behavior Technician. I struggled to keep up with classmates, as what came easily to them required extra effort from me. Nevertheless, through hard work, determination, the support of my loving family, and the assistance of campus student disability centers and resources, I have persevered in achieving my educational goals. I want all children to feel they belong within the school system and that their accomplishments can be achieved alongside their unique challenges and disabilities. Equity is achieved through the right tools, support, and services, allowing all students to thrive. My firsthand experiences, combined with my academic background, have fueled my research interests in School Psychology, Educational Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Child Development, and Special Education. These experiences have shaped my research interests in understanding how educational environments can better support the needs of neurodivergent students and foster a sense of belonging.
